Had a thought about running two types of LED's in a DD Mag host.

I have an MC-E DD built however when the cells are depleted the light becomes a baton instead and the light coming out would surely cause damage to the rechargeables if left to discharge them too far.

I had a thought about adding some 5mm LED's but wired with the positive reversed from the primary LED so that in order to use them, I would simply reverse the cells in the host and then make use of a low light level instead in candle mode. I mention candle mode as the LED's would have to be

My concerns were raised about reverse polarity on an MC-E and 5mm LED's. As far as I have been reading, the only issue with reverse polarity is when using driver boards to run an LED, but in DD mode, this should not be an issue, right?

You can make it work with a driver too. Just have a diode to stop the reverse voltage.

As long as the battery voltage isn't high enough to damage or kill the LED you should be fine.

But don't quote me, I have very limited understanding of diodes.
