This seems to be the secret to the high brightness low power LEDs - the use of a rectanglar die in the indium gallium nitride LEDs. Unless it is a distortion in the photo, the die is over twice as long as it is wide. The Nichia GS LED also has a rectangular die, but I'm not sure it is as long. It seems to me that a square shape would be more efficient use of surface area. Can anyone explain?
