10mm LEDs?

Today at RadioShack I saw a 10mm LED. I am familiar with 2 and 5mms but I have never seen or heard of a 10mm before today. Are they a lot brighter than 5mms and how do they compare to 5mms?

What I've seen of the electrical characteristics leads me to believe that the 3mm, 5mm and 10mm usually use the same dice. Sometimes a 10mm will have two dice, but they'll be sure to tell you if it does. Considering the price and availability I'd avoid them unless an application could only use one LED and a 5mm wouldn't fit a pre-existing hole or something. As for optical, there is more space for a wider a/o deeper cup but I wouldn't bet on it.
