An Irish art student has invented a new material called Sugru that lets you mod your own stuff really easily. I imagine you could modify flashlights to do lots of interesting things. Here are a few links to follow:

I imagine it to be something like silly putty that sets into a firm, elastic shape that you mold yourself. It adheres to metal quite firmly. Make sure to view some of the videos in these links.

That stuff looks interesting. I'd have some fun with it, since I'm always trying to "fix" things with super glue and wire.

thanks for showing this

it looks pretty good

I'm always hacking stuff to improve and personalise

from blu-tack through to 2-pack epoxy (and with a bit of glo powder added aswell)

you can always fix or improve things this way
much better that throwing it in the bin

a shame it sold out
at 7 quid incl. shipping its good value

Right here....
"The product goes on sale this week but it has already caught the eye of design experts who have tested it out and hailed it as the most exciting product since Sellotape or Blu-Tack."

I assume that Sellotape is cellophane tape; now almost completely replaces with the 'frosty' tape that is polyethylene based. AKA 3M 'magic invisible tape'; I can rememeber seeing ads for it on TV.

I haven't a clue what 'Blu-Tack' might be. Some kind of glue?

Where I work, all the flimsy feet on the PC keyboards eventually break and disappear. This stuff would quickly solve the problem.

It could also be handy for creating a custom mount for a GPS unit on the dashboard of your vehicle.

I can't wait to get some and experiment. I'd keep it out of the hands of the kids though. If it bonds to metal as well as indicated, it could create some 'sticky' problems.

Looks good - I'm sure there is a substance you can get from Maplin that - once heated using hot water - you can mold into any shape you wish. But the fact that this stuff is cold molded and sticky, as well as its flexibility once cured, make this an innovative product I will look out for.

BTW - Blu tack is a maleable sticky putty - used to stick photos onto walls, posters etc - the idea is it will stick until you want to take the photo down - then you can re use the putty - I'm sure you must have your own brand in the USA. It's got tons of uses including stop frame animation!

Someone's gonna get rich on this.
