Why P7 emitters uses soft polymer domes?

Just guessing but it might work better with expansion and contraction

I think it's because it makes them more tempting to poke with your finger and cover them in finger prints. Just kidding.

This is just a guess by me but maybe the soft domes stay in place better. There have been reports of the hard domes used by Cree falling off. I experienced that myself.

Yes. I just colored one with a sharpie today. I think it's Silicone and if so, Silicone is 100% inert and nearly impervious to heat, making it a great choice for long-lived emitters that put out heat,
