I was bored last night so I went out and dropped my Mag 2D into the pool. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif The area it went into was only about 3 feet deep. I opened it up and poured water out of the battery compartment, and out of the head! What the hell?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yep, they are crap. Just about every one of them leaks around the switch. Thats what I hate about them... well other than that horrible beam of light they emmits. LOL /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

I have found that for the MiniM*gs,,, if you put a thicker oring in them it helps ALOT. It makes the head alot tighter, so it doesnt have any play in it.

As for the switch,,, well its crap /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif so theres not much you can do. Except,,, I recommend ppl with mag mods with expensive components in them, to at least place some duck tape over the switch for outdoor use.

Oh yeah, that rubber cap over the switch might as well be made out of canvas. Consider it splash resistant but not waterproof to any degree.

I wouldn't even think it's splash resistant...

Do this sometime: take your mag into a shower, take a hot shower, and afterwards, see if the inside (not the outside) of the lens of the mag is fogged up and actually dripping... Some of mine do that all time...

because he's a flashaholic /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twak.gif

i've put epoxy on the back of my mag switches on some mods.
i've also put lube there in other mods...

if using the epoxy, be careful with it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

the D and C cell mags tend to leak around the switch because the method of sealing it out against water is no different from the surefire non-lockout tailcaps. just remove the rubber cap, and use duct/electrical tape to seal it and you can take it into the swimming pool /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Turn around, walk away slowly and don't make eye contact. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Dan

P.S. A little RTV around the switch cover normally takes care of the "leaking switch blues".

I am not sure if the guy who dropped his mag in the pool because he was bored should question the guy who took his mag in the shower. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

I am surprised that you guys were amazed that water got inside a MagLite. We all know they "suck"! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif Just kidding! I have a couple of MagLites and they do well for what they are.

mags are great for letting neighbors borrow a light. Then your not worried about damage or loss /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey, be glad it was a Mag! You could have paid 15x as much as the Mag costs for an L4 and had that leak too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
