For our first project of the year, Moddoo and I are producing a set of ceramic coated Surefire 6P's.

The question is, which color or colors to do first? Here are all of the available/standard colors.

What color do you want to have? Other colors (like bright white) may also be possible:

FAQ
  • What about other models?
We are starting with 6Ps and perhaps 9Ps. Other models will be considered with future batches.
  • How tough is this coating?
Its to early to say how it directly compares with mil spec HA, but this coating is used, among other things, to coat engine blocks and the blades of gas turbines.
  • How much would a complete ceramic coated host cost?
We're hoping to price them per model, about the same as our HA hosts.
  • How soon would these be ready?
We're hoping to have them shipping by the beginning of next month
  • Is this the same coating Malkoff just introduced?
Yes, it is with his help that this is possible as soon as it is.

Re: Feeler: Color options for ceramic coated Surefire's

Colors I might order specifically:

17, 19, 21.

Others that I find interesting:

20, 27, and maybe 22 if it's a matte look rather than shiny.

:twothumbs for bringing yet another great Surefire mod option to the forum :)

I have one of Gene's EMS Orange MD2s, and the coating is impressive.

One thing of note...this coating is much slicker than HA on knurled surfaces. I've installed o-rings on mine to aid in gription.

It might be worth considering a different model, one with grip-rings and combat-style shape for a run.

Will it be possible for members to send in self-owned hosts for coating?

I don't know if I will buy it if you do offer it. But here is my opinion.

I love my 6P but the coating is too fragile. So I would pick 03, because it is shiny black and closest to the original coating.

If it was for any other flashlight, I would choose 01 or 24. Whichever is closest to pure flat black.

Turquoise, purple, and pink might have some interest as well. If I got one, I would probably want a bored Z2 in 17, or maybe purple just for kicks.

17 would fill a well neglected niche.

21, 22, 23 would be great for soldiers, since too much black is a bad thing.

I think some brighter colors would be better, some of us have all the military xxx-drab shades of things we can handle.

I'll 2nd a Purple even though it's not on the list.

I vote 17. I think everyone loves orange for some reason. I am sure I could be convinced to order a 6P in this color.

Happy New Year Everyone,

I will add that if you were some how able to find a large batch of the C2-BK lights and then orange ceramic coat those you would have a super hit. I would consider it a sacrilege to molest a C2-HA!

16 ,17,19,20,21,22 would all be cool . I really seem to be liking the desert tan/brown on SF lights.

27 or 28 would be cool also

I would love a C2 with #20 to match my XD45 dark earth, but would also consider any host with #17 to be awesome.

I would want 01,21,22.

17 is a must, maybe more colors like it red, yellow, lime, blue?

A 3P and 1C host would be cool in later batches.

Great project! Thanks!

I'd be interested in a C2 in white, cream or yellow. I think this host is better for slippery surfaces and offers some nice color contrast with the black.

I'd take it in orange (17), too :D

I wonder if SF grip rings work on MD lights:

The testing didn't go well for marking HA, they were just to hard to find/see. But this process leaves the parts together.
It may be possible, when we get a few batches under our belts.

How about an HA 6P?:

Once we have the capability down. P series are first, but C's and Z's are certainly possible. Everything will be bored first.

A white C2 would be pretty wicked!

The capability for variety is there. To make it affordable, however, we have to do minimums for each color.
The question for any color then, is how many would want it. Lets see how the "sums" go.

21, 22, 23 would be great for soldiers, since too much black is a bad thing.

It would cost more, but we can also do different versions of camo, including digital / ACU:

Probably. The MD is just a hair over 1" OD. I just don't like the idea of the set of three shapes.
