Any ideas for waterproof switches

I'm putting together an electrical system for my boat. Waterproof switches are expensive; about 38-60 dollars a piece. I need about 8 of them. I was thinking about two metal reeds in a tube. When the tube is squeezed by a clamp the reeds connect and close the circuit. Does anyone have any ideas for a homemade waterproof light?

Thanks

Use a magnetically activated reed switch. No squeezing necessary. Just get the magnet within close proximity, and the reed switch closes.
