firework photography: pretty foreground vantage pt

anyone here familiar with dana point, orange county? thinking of making the 70 odd miles trek to take pics. looking the visitor info, maps, etc, and looks like the gazebo down the road from the marine institute might do the trick. what about the two parks there, heritage and lantern i think they are called. how far out on the water are the fireworks set off and would they be mere specs if viewed from the harbor (public access areas anyway). other option is disneyland hotel, but i'm not sure yet. i want someplace that has a nice foreground or middle ground for the fireworks to be over. locally in the inland empire, its smoggy to start with, and then nothing i can use for foreground. other place suggestions also welcome. thanks!
