CES 2010: Nanotechnology used to improve LED phosphor coatings

Hartlove stated that for lighting, the company simply uses standard blue LEDs, and adds their phosphor material architectured from nanomaterials to create warm white LED lights.

The article is geared towards technology applications (Better LED screens, for example), but given that it talks about 'brighter, warmer colors for the same energy efficiency', it sounds promising for flashlight LED manufactures as well.

And with a material manufacturers can easily add to their process line, meaning no new factories or significant retooling needed to create better - still low power - LED products.

Sounds exciting. The day may be coming when we can get a bright yellow - or bright red or green, for that matter - LED with an insignificant drop in output over regular LEDs. Wonder how many years until this makes its way into actual products
