Step-by-step guide for modding your MG PLI

1)Unscrew the bezel, all the way off

2)Using a set of heavy duty moding tweezers, place the prongs through the heatsink. Turn counter-clockwise to remove.

3)a)Oh, what's this? Looks like an old friend...:wave:despite the incompatible bezels, heads, tailcaps, it looks like the pills are the same: select the nearest convenient MG pill.

3b)Screw in the new pill while re-assembling the light.

Ok, all set. Enjoy the newly modified ssr-50 in an MG PLI.
To actually do the mod, very simple. De-solder the mc-e, pill holds a 20mm star (if occasionally the 'points' must be filed down)

The reflector is a fine fit for the sst-50 (bare sst-50 emitter sitting face-down inside the reflector in this picture)

Perfect beam, the bezel can be fully tightened for the most defined hot-spot

*the new ones seem to use a slightly modified version of the pill,

with a 7135 '0704' instead of a '0603,' a few minor alterations with additional r2 resistor and a 000 bridge.

This new to me version is identified with three stars on the back. I suspect it is more efficient, I believe the new ones pulled .5A more out of a used battery than the old one, but this is only suspicion at this point. I need to re-assemble a few pills to remove other variables from the test.
