Re: Streamlight TL-2 Tactical Light w/ 1w Luxeon Star

The spec's are on Streamlight's website. The TL-2 seems pretty cool, but I don't think it is regulated.

The Arc LS5 is what I really want too! It is great to know its coming but torture to know it is 6 months away. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

only 6 months?! to wait for a flashlight better than all my present LS's, with 11-12 brightness settings like the fabulous (to be) LS-4, at five times the watts!? I could do that standing on my head! -- so to speak.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

..could someone mod me a dim setting into my old LS's?
This would add SO MUCH usefulness in terms of runtime, and being able to use it for long periods to light the trail..(with the 'turbo boost' button ready for the unexpected.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

TedtheLed,

You define the virtue of patience. I am honored to be in the same thread as you. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif

So did you get the spec's on the TL-2 and what do you think about it?

oh!? that is quite unecessary, please get off your knees! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had never seen the TL-2 before and didn't remember seeing it posted about, and generally like the way Streamlight does things.. so thought I'd post about it.. but to answer the q. I am preferring rechargeable to 123's these days, and of course non-regulated lights are now relics ... though it is relatively inexpensive and might make a nice emergency storage light.. or a gift.. ?

Do you use the Pila Li-Ion rechargeable cells?

It uses 2x123a thats 6 volts going in to the 1 watt LS. There got to be some type of step down regulation, right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I haven't been here forever, but long enough to assimilate most of the basics.

Why would I like a light, that unexpectedly STOPS putting out bright light, in what dire circumstances God only knows.

I prefer to judge the beam brightness myself. The drop in brightness is in a nice slowwww fashion, and I'd have to be an idiot not to know when to change batteries.

I just changed the AA's in my SL Luxeon when it looked like it needed it. Still gave out a lot of Lumens, but no catastrophic drop in brightness.

Probably just resistored, like the Propoly 4AA LED.

..but there is a TL-3 too, with 9 volts worth of 123's -- would Streamlight resistor down 9 volts ?
I emailed them asking..

Hello Streamlight,
Regarding the TL-2 and TL-3 flashlights; I was wondering if you could
tellme if you use a resistor or some sort of step-down circuit to regulate the voltage of the 2 and 3 123cell lithium lights when using the Luxeon Star head?
Thanks very much,
Ted
------------
Ted,
Yes, there is a circuit board as a part of the LED module.
Specifics on that circuit are not available at this time.
Regards,
Eric

Here area a couple of pictures that I shot at a Streamlight booth at the C.O.P. conference last week.

The first is the Night Fighter 2, then my L1, and the TL2 LED.

This one is looking into the bezel at the reflector of the TL2 LED.

I was rather impressed with both of these little Streamlights.
