The JetBeam RRT-2 draws 2 mA with the ring setting in standby mode. You can forget to turn off the light because it is in the standby setting. Then the battery will go dead. It seems as a useless setting. Any simple work-arounds so the wife can use the light without having to think about it?

Wrap a big hunk of electrical tape around the ring. Give her mid brightness, and when she learns to handle that, maybe you can take off the training tape....

That makes 3 ways to extinguish the light now, tail switch, tail twist and ring twist. No, the best thing to do is to disable the ring standby mode somehow by my thinking. That is the only way to be certain she does not accidentally leave the light in bypass mode and run down the battery.

The rotating bezel has stops at both ends and the ring does not have an obvious way to release it. I cannot figure it out without using force. Then I may break it. Otherwise I very much like the light.
