This is to a Surefire Rep. or anyone that has info on a
Surefire Lumamax L4 Royal Blue. I purchased one on eBay
and wondered if this could be a Mod? After magnifying the
picture, I see it says it's an E2E body but it is a KL4
head. Anyway, it's a cool Light.

i would suspect a mod also..

what's funny is that they advertised it as an l4, but it's acutally an e2e+kl4 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

What is the difference between an L4 and an e2e+kl4? Just the writing on the side of the light?

There must be some difference or Rothrandir would not have been able to tell which one is/was offered for sale on ebay.

Weeell, an E2e has "E2e" written on it, and an L4 has "L4" written on it. That's the only difference, apart from the head and tailswitch (as far as I know..)
Since the photo posted appears to be from Ebay, I would hazard a guess that it is the one which was auctioned - showing the side of the light which says it is an E2e.

I would guess that it should be fairly easy to tell if it was modded, once you have the light in your hands. There's a good chance it'll be fairly obvious if the Luxeon has been removed and replaced, unless the person who did it is *very* good at soldering, and cleaned up carefully afterwards..

UPDATE: I put the KL4 head on an E1e and it was just as
bright. If it is a mod, then they used the KL4 IC with a
very bright royal blue LED. I hope it's not over driving it.

Thank you!
Which now makes me wonder, what are the tailswitch options?

There are currently three Z numbers assigned to E Series LOTC's

Z52 LockOut TailCap - E Series - HA
Z53 LockOut TailCap - E Series - GM/SG
Z54 LockOut TailCap - E Series - BK

Although it is not yet released as an accessory, there is the

Z57 Clickie TailCap - E Series - HA

There is also an E2e-CJ LOTC, and three non-LOTC TailCaps from the Classic E Series HA/BK/GM.
We must not forget the E2W-BY - E2 WINE LIGHT II - Burgundy

My white LED "L4" also came on an E2e body, and has the Z57 clicky tailcap switch. The letter that came with it referred to it as an L4; though it's actually a KL4 head on an E2e body with a Z57 tailcap switch.

I don't know if Spektrum's light is a mod or not, but I suspect it is because of the royal blue LS LED.

The LED Museum's sample is similar to mine in that the E2e body was used as the samples were sent out before the "L4" etchings were complete.

The L4 body and E2e and E2o bodies are the same.
