Hey everyone,

I've been a gun guy for a long long time, and I've never really been into archery. My wife of all people has wanted an alternative two shotguns when we go to the range and was interested in trying out archery. Anybody have any suggestions for a basic target setup for a newbie?

Again, no hunting will be done, this will only be shooting hay bails and plastic targets out at my gun club.

Thanks guys!

When I was a kid, we had a nice range in the back yard.

Shooting up to 50# bows with field points, we seldom had problems. The target set up was:

Hay bales, fronted by cardboard to minimize straw flying. Two layers of thick canvas (one 20x12 sheet hung over 2x4s ) to protect the fence behind the bales.

We had a 25 yard setup when in the city. By the time I moved to the country I was a faitrly good shot and only needed 3 bales stacked atop each other in a field.

OTOH, that was 40 years ago. You can get some really nice commercial target backstops. http://www.bupsports.com/
