A little over a year now I was asked to develop a tail cap to compliment my aspherical bezels; something fluted.
This is what I came up with:
The design went through several iterations trying to minimize weight, maximize capability and simplify features as to keep fabrications costs down. This particular model is for use with D-cell Maglites allowing several combinations of cells to be used depending on the size Mag. I will add a comprehensive list of cell combos later, but for now you can review my cell configuration models illustrated in my interested thread through the link above.
I am offering three different versions of the tailcap; Smooth, Fluted, Milled & Fluted all in stainless steel or aluminum. Materials of construction used are a stock Maglite C-cell spring, OEM D-cell 0-ring seal, oxygen-free-high-conductivity 101-copper for the spring cup and 303 stainless or T6061 aluminum for the cap itself. The tailcaps come assembled with the O-ring lubricated with Fomblin PFPE (Perfluorinated Polyether) grease and the threads greased by Nyogel 760G.
Total wieght for the 303 S.S. assemblies come in at 12oz for the Milled & Fluted, 13.50oz for the Fluted & 16oz for the Smooth. The aluminum cap assemblies are 4.80oz, 5.50oz & 6.25oz respectively. Surface finish options being offered are brushed, a high polish (like my aspherical bezels) or electropolish.
The offer includes a tailcap, Mag-C spring with copper cup and stock OEM D-Mag o-ring seal. The D-mag spring and lanyard shown are not included and will not be an option. Priced at $70 for brushed finish and $90 with a high polish or electropolish. Since this is the first time offering an electropolished finish I have some uncertainty about how this finish will turn out. Once I get a few made I'll send one off to the platers for a sample. The price includes all parts mentions, but not shipping.
