Hi Ken,

I'll be upfront about the light I've been working on--I started it well before you asked for a light, so it might not be exactly what you are looking for.

I've wanted to try a sterling silver light for some time, as it allows me to both use my lathe, and my meager experience in hand-working silver. So, I'm making a planished SS light.

Here's as far as I've gotten:

The unpolished area in the middle is where the threading will go--this will be a twisty.

So the hammering is done and next I'll do the lathe work on the rest of the light, mainly the internal machining. When that's done, I envision putting some sort of discrete, i.e., minimal exterior design that will be cut by the lathe.

Ultimately it will be both an Old World and modern combo.

If this isn't anything that would appeal to you, just let me know.

Wow. I can envision some pattern of thin bands cut into that silver. I'm sure whatever you do it will end up super classy.

PS. I've been eying up the DLC Coated Killers for a keychain light. Sooo nice looking.

nice (as always Fred)

the hammered finish would match my sterling silver cigar case

did it start as a solid chunk of silver?
hope you keep the findings...easy to re-melt

:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

regards Jason

ninemm--exactly what I was thinking--nothing to heavy-handed though.

gollum--these were cast. I'd love to find a solid rod, but I know it would cost a fortune, even if I did recover the swarf. I'm hoping that I've found a source of seamless SS tubing. Might have to switch to a light with a switch, but that's a small price to pay.

cheers Fred...
there was someone selling 18 oz of silver in the marketplace
as bullion bars and coins just the other day total price asking $315(from memory)
as I said it is easy to melt ,with a blowtorch and crucible...although a nice round bar would be harder....
I'm sure a jeweller would be able to do this for not too much $

when I was making my mokume ,I used $1000 worth of pure silver (it has to be pure) it was 20 sheets of 1/16" thick by 3" by 5" layered together with pure copper same size (they only cost $38 for 19 sheets)
these were all supplied by a jeweller

there would be another great way to go ...damasteel rod ...
its dear at $300 per foot but its 7/8" (23mm) diameter
the same stuff as Lummi used for the Raw Da

I would definately buy a custom made 18650 light with a nice bright XP-G or SST-50 etc...
paypal trigger at the ready...:)

The hammering on this makes the light have liquid or molton look to it. Very nice!

You're always so creative with the lights you create. Way to go!

What light engine will go into this one?

I'm leaning toward driving whatever LED I choose, XPG, K2, or P4 at 1A, or higher. Hey, the sterling silver is fantastic for heat transfer, so why not.

And, oh, :poke: Where's Kenster????

I might have to foist this off on someone else. :D
