I now have extended my experimentation with Scotch Satin Tape. After successfully removing the ringy lines from the beam of my blue Inova X5T, I did likewise with my UK300 and my UKMiniQ40. Very effective, minimal effect on overall light output, and dirt cheap.

Thanks.

I find that double layers of wrinkled up zip lock bags work. It does filter out more light than I would like but helps to smooth a beam good on wide focus. I tried an Ingle's LDPE plastic bag. The beam disappears totally except for a small line that appears to be the filament because I can rotate just the light and the line rotates too. Anyone have an expalnation? I think it has something to do with the construction and the way they make the bag.

Yes, Writewright is about $20 a pack at the Radio Shacks around here, and the Satin Scotch tape is free in my kitchen junk drawer.
