Hello everybody this is you'r friendly neighborhood Sandcrab again. I want a
good light for my parents, they live on the base of the Superstition Mountains
and they get quite a few Javalina running through the yard. They have just
over 1 acre and need a good light. They have a minimag led now but I want
to get them a flashaholic light. I told them about the jet-beam m1x but they
said too big, so how about something smaller. I was thinking about the d20
or the t100c2. It needs to shine to 100 ft, so they can see the pigs before
the pigs see them. As always thanks for all the great advice.:twothumbs

I am in Deer Valley/Cave Creek and I use a SureFire C2 with Thrunite XPG dropin. It works well for spotting critter out in the desert. My dad uses the same setup and he lives on some land in Cave Creek. He deals with Javalina and lights them up with his C2 although they don't really care too much sometimes, stuborn critters. He has an Ra Clicky 170 as well, but he is a firm believer in the C2 for good reason, it's a great light.

I also like Peak lights as well. I would bet that a Night Patrol would work well for them. Although I don't have one yet, I plan on getting one soon. Plus Peak is a local company, they are over by Deer Valley airport.

Good luck with the quest.

I'd suggest something with a neutral tint, I believe all of Eagletac's lights have a neutral option.

A DEFT should let them see anything a quarter mile away if not more.

The M1X isn't big.

It needs to shine to 100 ft, so they can see the pigs before the pigs see them.

If they want small, check out the RRT-2 but there's less light and that translates over to less viewable distance but the RRT-2 should be able to do a hundred feet.

What they need for pig spotting is a RRT-3 or something bigger, such as this.

:D

Um, I have a dumb question here but...what do you mean by "so they can see the pigs before the pigs see them"?

Maybe I'm just thinking too much, but wouldn't the pigs be immediately alerted the very SECOND the light turns on? If it's a good thrower, the beam itself will be visible in the dark. And when the beam lands on the pig, there's no way it won't be able to see you.

Good choice of lights here. I'd personally go with the surefire options.

100 feet is an easy job for almost any of the newer lights, even some of the quite small ones. You should get 300 ft or more with some of the better throwers, and with that they will be able to spot anything that moves on a 1 acre area.

Just like DM51 said, even the smaller lights will give good lighting 100ft away.

How about a Quark 123x2 with an R2 emitter? You can choose between regular and tactical depending on what you want. Personally, I think the tacticals momentary on feature would be good to have for what your wanting to do. At 4sevens, they're on sale for $58.65 with free shipping. You can enter the CPF8 discount code at checkout for an additional 8% off and currently the R2's come with a free Prism kit.

Which battery format do your folks prefer?

If by "format" you mean type of battery:

I prefer Li-ion batteries, but if I'm recommending them to someone else, I must also recommend them to research the dangers of lithium batteries if they're misused.

Thanks for all the help on the pig light

Howdy from the Sandcrab, you people are excellent. I know if anybody has
a question someone here has an answer. Battery selection is not too important. My parents are looking for simple U.I, about the size of the RRT3
They want the light for spotting critters when they take Tonka (jack russell
terrier) out at night. How is the RRT3 for ease of use? So thank you again
for all the good advice:twothumbs

Are you sure you mean the RRT-3???? This torch is new to the market, is rather large and heavy, and costs $325.

I'm merging this with the original thread - there's no need for a separate one.

I would say a quark turbo, if they are picky about tint they can get a warm LED in this light also.
