so i do like my tk40. but when out for a walk the other night with fresh alkys in it, there was definately times i wish it had more output and throw. SO, i guess i'm looking for more of a show-off light that will really impress.

from what i found on here it seems the 1300L has more output than the Solarforce L1200 and the RL-2088. i haven't been able to find anyone directly comparing the 1300L and Legion II, anyone have both? trying to figure out which is brighter

still keeping my options open, i don't really care what battery this one needs.. is there anything in the area of $150-$200 that has more brightness and throw than these two?

Remember that lumen perception is exponential. Your TK40 produces around 600 lumens.

Even if you got a 1000 lumens out of the Legion or the 1300, which is unlikely, it will only look maybe 10% brighter, if that.

Tell ya what. Your TK40 has several modes. 13, 93, 277, and 630.

Go through them carefully. Does the 93 lumens look 6 times as bright as the 13 lumens? Does the 277 look 4x as bright as the 93? Is the 630 appear to be 2.5x brighter?

No. So the jump from 630 to 1000 is not going to me very much. Its only a 55% jump, MUCH less than the 120% jump from 277 to 630.

So gauge your expectations accordingly before you spend a bunch of money.

If you really want something impressive, you need to move up to an Olight Intimidator, XTAR Howitzer, a triple MC-E/P7 mod, or pick up a 35 Watt HID instead.

Joe i appreciate your reply, i guess i just needed someone to tell me.
so i may grab a DX 1200lm just because someone claimed it was "much" brighter than their tk40... but you've got me thinking about these spare HID ballasts/bulbs i have sitting around

Sorry if this has been asked before, but are those 630 emitter lumens from the TK40 or OTF lumens?

I'm losing track  as a few of the manufacturers seem to quote differently as far as lumen output goes?

The TR-1200 Trustfire is supposed to be pretty bright as well. It has good throw and is 50 bucks. Uses up to 3x18650s, and the DX site has a video comparing to a P7.

It might be worth considering. Another good option is to check the Buy/Sell section of the Marketplace and find someone's homebrew. I saw several nice Maglite Mods at the Flashapooloza this last weekend.

Another example: You might find an expensive light for cheap on the marketplace. This XTAR Howitzer is 160 bucks. http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=225084

Its a 3x MC-E at 1700 lumens.
