sst50 for the pocket

looking for a good sst50 light. been away for a while. done some searching but cant find anything for a reasonable price. are they any brighter than the mte mce lights found at dx, or more efficent? got anything not much bigger or thicker than a d20?

Mac builds one that's pocket sized. I believe the Al version is $150.

The SST-50 is a 1 chip LED without the gaps between the dies of the P7/MCE. This allows tighter focus but most manufacturers are still using OP reflectors. The LED is less efficient than the dies used in the P7/MCE.

My SST-50 is an XTAR Outrider. It comes with an extender tube and can go 1x or 2x 18650s. The old ones have 3 modes with a strobe and SOS. The newer ones have 4 brightness and a strobe.

I got mine for 70 bucks when they first came out. You might be able to find one in the marketplace or somewhere. On high it is driven at 2.5 Amps. The head has a deep reflector but is not very fat (about 1.5 inch diameter). Build quality is decent.

Remember that it is shown with extender tube most of the time. It works nicely in the pocket without it.
