I have seen a mod in which the TIR from a Surefire KL1 is used in a Novatac. Will that mod work with a K2 emitter?

It will be very difficult to use the KL1 optic with an LED that it wasn't designed for. It would be much easier to use a Khatod or similar good-quality optic with a holder that clips to the K2.

Yes it will work. Several people have done it. I have a KL optic in an L1 head with a K2. It will give you a square-ish beam with almost no spill. I find it works very well as a bike helmet light together with a floodier handlebar light. The spot gets very big at 15-20 feet in front of you.
