I got my new SF LX2 and was wondering if it is safe and performs at its' peak with AW protected 16470's? Are there other reliable alternatives besides RCR123's? I have a collection of SureFires and love each one but this LX2 is one sweet performing light. BTW my serial #A18800.:twothumbs

seems safe, but probably take a hit in performance.

check out AW LiFePO4, safer option than rcr123.

my AW17670 did not fit in the LX2.

I would not try RCR123 cells. Two fresh RCR123 cells has ~8.4V. Looks for me too high. I think the driver will die at this high voltage. For that reason I will not try it and blast a $190 flashlight away.
Maybe 3V rechargables would work? But I never tried this, and the capacity of the 3V recharchables is poor...
In my LX2 I used a AW14670 cell. Bigger cells like 17670 or 18650 will not fit. The light works without problems. The cell fits into the tube. But the light is not as bright compared to the usage with 2xCR123.

There's a very long thread on the LX2 in which the use of rechargeables comes up frequently. You should find all the info you want and more in there.
