I and ma_sha1 have had a lot of success with two DX 20330 drivers in parallel to drive the SST-50 to exactly 5.0A. You can change the sense resistors if you know how, to move the output current up or down a bit. (I like 4.2A). You would have to add modes with a third board, but space would be an issue. The mode board on the DX 20329 has no memory and always starts off on MID. :sick2: By itself, the 20329 only drives the SST-50 to ~1.8A :sick2::sick2:

The KD drivers have earned themselves a bad reputation for overheating and failing back to safety mode, or a certain portion of them just being DOA :sick2::sick2::sick2:.

Der_wichtel has a very promising single mode buck driver and is working on one with modes. Sector_cleared has had one for the 9A SST-90 in development for a long time, maybe he'll have a 5A version. Obviously, either of those will cost significantly more than the Hong Kong boards mentioned above.

Also, keep your eye on this very promising board in development: H6Flex 6.6Amp Adjustable Buck
