Hi guys Can you put a M61 in a 9P would it be worth it any advantage with three batteries or a rechargeable battery setup Thanks Craig

You can use the 9P, but you either have to use primary CR123s, or two 17670 Li-ions...if you use three RCR123 Li-ions, you'll fry it. I believe you will gain some runitme with the 9P, but the output is about the same.

From the manufacturer's description:

"The input voltage is 3.4 - 9 volts. Below 3.4 volts it will drop out of regulation and run direct drive."

To me, that sounds like 3x CR123A primary cells and 2x 17500 Li-ion cells are both acceptable battery configurations in the 9P.

It sure will and it better!
I have a C3 waiting for my M61 to arrive. :)
I like running 18500's around the house in my ElectronGuru bored tube, and when on the road 3 primary cells in my stock tube.

No problem. I've been using my M61 in the 2 cell MD2, 2 cell 6P and finally in the 6P with the A19 extender that gives me 3 cell (9 volts ) usage. Since I have a few Malkoff's laying around, my biggest headache is to decide in which bodies I want which modules in but they all work with 3 cells so no sweat. I also have decided to stick with only primary 123's for now.

I have a FM9P with a M61, 2x18500, Also 2 SF C3's one with M60F, other with M60, both with 2x17500's They all kick Butt!!! :D
Advantage is "runtime"......
I was afraid to try 3xrcr123's however...

I currently have a 6P with A19 extender all bored ad use 2x18500. the 3 cell setup is great. the balance is perfect IMHO and not too long like a 2x18650 config. or slightly too short like a C2 or 6P and it opens up multiple battery setups . even if you have a 9p or C3 you could get a dummy cell and run 2xcr123

All the Malkoff products feature regulation, so the added cell will give you a longer run time, but it won't bump the output.

SGT - you're going to love it. I'm trying to articulate just how much I love it, but this is a family forum.

I compared my Malkoff M61 between MD2 and MD3 bodies. I received equal result as with my Malkoff M60: output at high was practically the same but with low the output was twice, or more at 9V than 6V.
Therefore I think 9P is a great choice for extended runtime with M61. If output is the same it should mean 50% longer runtime, I guess.

SureFire 9P:
Unbored, can take 2x17500 for 3.7V x 2 cells x 1100 mAh = 8.1 watt-hours of capacity
Bored (18mm) w/ 2x18500 = 11.1 watt-hours

SureFire 6P
Unbored SF w/ 1x17670 = 5.9 watt-hours
Bored (18mm) w/1x18650 = 9.6 watt-hours

Although the Malkoff M61 should provide slightly less output with a single LiIon cell (per the M61 thread), its runtime on a single 18650 will beat an unbored 9P. FWIW.

BTW I've used (or at least tried out) my Malkoff M60 with all four configurations, essentially.
All are good and work very well.

All calculations were done using posted capacities for the AW protected (black wrapper) LiIon cells.

whenever i'm in a situation where i really need max runtime i use a m60-type in my c3...primarily it's the host i use for the m60-mce battery burner...

i've done the m61 in the c3; works well...

I have a first run M61 that I use in an original 9P and it works just fine. In fact, I was a little surprised to even hear this was a concern or potential issue.

FWIW, the MD3 + SF Z41 twisty is an excellent 3-cell host for the M61. That's my exact setup. Well, the M61 and Wildcat head go back and forth on the body. Being about 3/8" shorter than the G3/9P, the proportions of this setup is excellent. I dunno exactly why, but it As a big bonus, the MD3 gives you the option of having a low setting. I love it.
