Google\'s new ~power

http://google.blogspace.com/archives/001018

"Today, Google introduced a new advanced search feature that enables users to search not only for a particular keyword, but also for its synonyms. This is accomplished by placing a ~ character directly in front of the keyword in the search box."

They might need to fine-tune it a bit though.... I did a search for ~flashlight and one of the hits included Bud Light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

Re: Google\'s new ~power

I searched on ~candlepower. Everything returned by Google had the word "candlepower" in it -- no "candle making" or "water power" or such. But noticed that what I did get was fascinating, with a lot of great links.

Re: Google\'s new ~power

Google's a fascinating company. I read a little while ago that they have more than 80 Ph.D.'s on staff, in a total of about 1,000 employees. I think their revenue this year is about $750 million, and they still haven't gone public yet. (I hope they don't get bought up by AOL and trashed like Netscape was.)
