I did quite a search, and can't find any concise reviews, old vs new comparisons, or hard statistics for the old single mode version of the Surefire E1L.

I have it on loan from my dad. He bought it a 2 or 3 years ago on the cheap, and the head is stamped KX1.

Any info?

All I can contribute is that I liked the single mode version well enough to replace it with the dual mode and the only difference I could tell was that I had a lower level as well. For the single 123 LED Surefires I think it's the best.

Sorry I don't have more info for you but I'm sure more knowledgeable members will soon be by to contribute.

IIRC the single mode KX1 was 30 lumens of output for several hours. Not sure about runtime. These aren't mentioned much on here as most people were much more interested in the single stage KX2 which was 45 lumens for over 8 hours.

I'm sure it works well and the tir optic catches all of the usable light it puts out. Making it seem far brighter than it really is.
