RAW with Lux III emitter questions

I have wanted a Lummi light forever but I dont dare buy direct from Lummi based on the crazy jeers and negative posts! Ive been waiting for months hoping that Lummi would get back to fulfilling orders in a timely manner but it still looks like that "timely manner" is 6 months +

Anyway, Im getting ready to pull the trigger on a used RAW NS. The only issue is that the owner states it is the version with the Lux III emitter. Unfortunately the owner doesnt know the output of it but says it is very bright.

I am unable to find the specs as far as output for this older model... A few questions.

1. Can anyone tell me what the estimated output of the Lux III emitter in this RAW?
2. Were there also different output options for ordering this model with this emitter when it was new?
3. Were these Lux III emitter RAW's single mode or dual mode?

Thanks in advance!

I put in an order for a Lummi Raw SS after emailing Rob with a few questions last week, I got it in the mail yesterday.

I have now put in another order for the Wee SS.

Rob is the owner of Lummi and he is getting back on his feet, you should give him an email and let him know your interested.

Captain - the Lux III Raws were very bright for their time - and what is bright to our eyes then still is now for all practical purposes. Also the early Raw NS runs had very nice binned leds, mine is the whitest of whites, and at a time when most white high power led torches were really cool blue!

But I have just checked out my original Raw Lux III with a fully charged RCR2 and it isn't quite as bright on high as my Eagletac P10A (Bought about a year ago) But that's just Luxes to Crees I guess.

Tempus fugit and technology speeds ever onward.

If you give Rob a call - not an email, he can tell you what he has in stock right now - things are often held up by shortages of some kind or other - it is possible to construct your order with what he has to hand, and you'll get it quickly without waiting for trits or batts or certain metals etc.

Give him a try, I have always found him to be a gentleman and a gifted maker of torches.

Cool, thanks Nyctophiliac. That at least gives me an idea of what I can expect with this emitter. I also stumbled upon a couple threads talking about upgrading the emitter as well, so i can go that route if Im not satisfied with it. Appreciate the info.

I have absolutely no doubt that Rob is a gifted torch maker, Ive been lusting at Lummi porn for months and months!! :hitit:

I am however, a very impatient person and after reading what ive read, a used one is more appealing to me. Besides, there are still people waiting for lights they ordered months ago and I wouldnt feel right even if i got the light tomorrow as in all fairness, it should have gone to one of the people that ordered months ago.

Thanks Nyctophilliac for the useful info!

Read here, Im sure he is fulfilling the back orders as we speak

https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/279377

This thread was not meant to get in an argument over rob's business practices, it was meant to get info on the lux emmiter.. I got the info I needed, thanks.

I have read way too many of his own responses in the jeers thread to ever give my money to that man. Not gonna happen ever. I like torches, not soap operas. I can't believe that anyone would frankly after that jeers thread where he is incredibly unapologetic for his wrongs... Verging on being straight rude to customers waiting months only to be told "2 more weeks".

That's all I have to say about that.

Great! Thanks Jay. That is exactly what I believe im going to do. Ive already paid for the Raw and figure I will wait to play with it a bit first, but Im sure an emitter swap is in this Raw's future!

In fact im giddy with excitement!

I thought the same once, and bought the same once.

Then I tried it out, and it's the most lovely, warm Lux3 with just a hint of peach, and I couldn't even dream of discarding such a wonderful emitter within a week of using it. With the fairly aggressive heat sinking on such a small torch (copper coupling the board with the body) it gets hot, fast. This means that it's driven fairly hard. I'd conservatively guess 80ish lumens on high. When it gets dark, I can do ceiling-bounce tests versus my twisty to put it +/-/= the 85 mark.
