Ok, I just got my U2 back from Surefire after 1 week of it staying with them. Yes, I sent the whole light to them without the batteries after I got confirmation from candlepower members to call them first.

Kudos to candlepower members for informing me about calling first before anything. (made things a lot simpler trying to hunt the guy's receipt).

If anyone remembered, I bought the U2 from a retired pilot for $100. It had a little scuffing on the tailcap (1mm circle). It came with a Lux emitter that had an eerie donut in the beam but the tint is much warmer than a p4. I sent it in because when the light dropped in a puddle of water while coming back to the campground in the rain, water and dirt seeped through the lens and caused a nasty stain.

When it came back...it wasn't the same U2 I was used to. 100% sure, my hunch was right. Surefire replaced the head assembly with a p4 model. The tailcap was replaced as well--seeing that the groove on the button is worn down. The only thing that was the same was the body.

Here are some photos: (note: the photos are too large so I'll link them)

Overall, I'm quite satisfied with their customer's service. The only thing I wasn't pleased with is the cooler tint from the p4--which was bearable since I run this at level 3 most of the time.

Considering I recently sought out a Luxv U2 for the warmer tint I would be slightly miffed if they swapped it out for the P4. But, what are you gonna do. Got a nice freshly fixed light for free.

True!!

No point in asking them for my old head back since it'll cost more to rip it apart and repair it than to just ship a new head and tailcap. Nevertheless, it's FREE!!!! :D
