I just finished an easy 4AA-D adapter. Take the 4AA adapter out of the Garrity Stainless Steel 4AA Std. Trim everything around the edges, just leaving the plastic in the middle. It works! I just tested 4 3V AAs in the 4AA-D adapter and a D cell spacer with a Carley 808 bulb in a 2D maglite.
