50m distance

Depending on the light, SureFire CR123 cells, AW protected 18650 2600mAh cells, AW protected 18500 1500mA cells or the respective proprietary cells, were used, all of them fresh or freshly charged respectively.
Exceptions: Inova T1-MP - slightly used Energizer Lithium CR123 cells, Wolf-Eyes Sniper - Wolf-Eyes 2200mAh cells, Fenix L0D, Fenix L2D, MagLite 2D, ZebraLight SC30, ZebraLight SC60.
The SureFire C2 and C3 hosts are bored ones from OVEREADY using an UCL lens and a McClicky tailcap.

Distance to the (more or less exactly ) targeted center of the house is 50m. The settings for all photos (except the daylight one ;)) are f/3.3, 8s, ISO100, 28mm. Click the images to see the original images.

Problems to be fixed by later updates:
  • Aiming at the target with the LumensFactory and Laser Products P90 drop-ins was not optimal
  • Photo of the PF50 is blurry

125m distance

My initial plan to use the shed at 95m plus the house behind it at 125m in the middle as target was hampered by the moon sitting right above the house at 110m right next to it, thus showing up in the pictures.
So I went straight for the small shed at 125m on the left. The front edge of the church is at 145m.

The settings for all photos (except the daylight one ;)) are f/3.3, 8s, ISO100, 28mm. Click the images to see the original images.

Problems to be fixed by later updates:
  • Aiming at the target with the LumensFactory, SureFire P91 (CR123) and the narrow frosted Moddoo Triple-XP-G drop-ins and the Olight SR90 was not optimal
  • While doing the Dereelight XR-E OP and Xenide shots, dawn caught me (which shows more prominent in the beamshots than in in real life ).

Miscelanneous beamshots (diffusers, filters)

1. SureFire FM34 vs. Wolf-Eyes diffuser on the 50m target.

Same settings as in first set for direct comparison (f/3.3, 8s, ISO100, 28mm). Click the images to see the original images.

SureFire C2, CustomLites Luminus SST-50 (W65S GJ100) 3 mode direct-drive + SureFire FM34 diffuser:

2. AELight Xenide Amber filter in action on the 70m target (at the far right of the second set) during snowfall.

These have different settings, using f/3.3, 1s, ISO100, 28mm. Click the images to see the original images.

Nice work! Makes me want to buy another of Daves dropins, a SST-90 this time. Or maybe one of Moodoo´s triple XP-Gs.

Thanks. If you get a chance to grab a Moodoo Triple, grab it! It is a work of art and while the Xenide with diffuser has a bit more punch, there are situations where it is hard to tell - and that out of a small single 18650 light.
But I would guess chances are very low that you get that chance, unfortunately.

That said, the nailbender SST-90 drop-in is still a very nice and impressive little flooder, too. Before I got the triple, it served as my favourite walking light.

What is the "narrow optic" you mentioned using with the Moddoo triple?

Nailbenders SST-90 P60 looks pretty good to me.

Thanks for taking the time to do such an excellent beam shot comparison. That aelight is pretty impressive too.

Added some misc beamshots, comparing SureFire FM34 and Wolf-Eyes diffusers and showing the Xenide Amber filter during snowfall and slight fog. The 8 times shorter exposure of the latter shots shows how glaring the reflection off the snow and fog actually was.

The SST-90 looks like it's got more throw then the SST-50 here.

Is this a matter of tint, the camera or does it look like this in real life?

It definitely does not look that way in real life, but why is a good question indeed.
Lighting up (or trying to) a distant reflector shows that e.g. the (Fenix L2D/LD20 like) Wolf-Eyes Sniper has more throw than the SST-90 or the Moddoo Triple. (I did not use the SST-50 at that point, gotta try it in such situations some more).
A while back when I directly compared the SST-50 and the Wolf-Eyes MC-Explorer in a forest, they seemed quite similar - the beamshots made me rethink that. But my eyes are not the best anyway and personally I do not care much about throw except when using the Xenide. ;)

Re: Outdor beamshots: nailbender SST-50&SST-90, Moddoo Triple-XP-G, AE Xenide 25W & m

I updated the first post with some new beamshots:
  • The Inova T1-MP that I forgot in the glovebox (where it lives as an emergency light) when doing the first set of beamshots. :ohgeez:
  • A new beamshot of the CustomLites Luminus SST-50 that is not blurred
  • Beamhots of the lower modes of the multi-mode lights

Re: UPDATED: Outdor beamshots: nailbender SST-50&90, Moddoo Triple-XP-G, AE Xenide 25

Hi elho, thank you VERY MUCH for taking the time to take these beamshots. I opened a second window of the post and was able to do some side by side comparos which was so useful as you have a few of the drop-ins I'm currently shopping around for.

The only thing is that to me, the shots taken with some light left in the sky creates a false impression that some lights/drop ins were brighter than they really were given the way my eyes interpret a scene as a whole.

For instance in my comparo of SureFire C2, Moddoo Triple-XP-G narrow clear optic:

vs. SureFire C2, Moddoo Triple-XP-G narrow frosted optic:

I know I should obviously focus on the buildings but my brain couldn't help but process the entire picture and thus the frosted optic looked brighter even though the earlier sets shows that isn't the case.

I am interested to know if others processed the scenes the same way?

Thx!,
Tim
