I am looking for a light that is inbetween one 18650 and two 18650's so i guess that will mean 3cCR123A.
Ideally it will have a good mix of throw and flood. I'm not too bothered about extended runtime as i will always carry spare rechargeables.

The main priority to me is output and size as i need to be able to fit it on my load vest or in a compatible holster.

Am i after something that is just not available??

surefire 9P, C3, M3, M3T, L6, choose the appropriate LED head

Inova T5, et al...

2x18650 will not fit in a 3xcr123A sized light, you'll either have to use 2x17500s or find an 4xcr123A light and figure out a spacer, but not before boring it by about 2-3mm wider

Kramer already pointed out some of the P60 compatible 3 cells hosts. There are some others or 2 cell hosts that take an extender for a third cell. Using 3 RCR actually means you need to be rated for more than 9V though unless...

you use 2 17500 or 18500. The size is the same. Voltage then works for the 9V compatible dropins (if they can't handle the 12+ volts of 3 RCR). You also have less cell matching concerns and more capacity.

I'm stunned by the quick responses guys, thanks!!

I have just checked out the Surefire recomendations but im a little disappointed by the output of these.
I have been checking out the Thrunite Catapult and Olight M21 which use the SST-50 emitter, which looks awesome and was just looking for a light that is a bit shorter on the length than these but with similar output.

For some lumen ratings of different lights, including three CR123A's and 2X17500 see here posts 1 and 3, and here. You can scroll through the second linked thread for additional lumen testing of other lights not shown in first post.

olight m30 can use 3 or 4 cr123a with extender. jetbeam m1x, and jetbeam ms2 can also use 3 or 4 cr123a.

keep in mind you can use 2x 18500 li-ion, in place for 3x cr123. 17500 size is also availible.

the chinese made lights readily excepts 18500 or 18650. but the surefires might have to be bored to fit them, im not 100% on that, but someone will probably enlighten us.

Man, I'm a bit envious. All I have is just a plain old 6P with an extender that will run on 3x123's but then again it will also run on cheap rechargeable AA's.

A big fan of the 6P/A19 or the Solarforce L2/ECR lights and adapters. That way you can have a 2 or 3 cell light depending on your liking. For the Solarforce you can add a E18 tube for 2x18650 or 4xCR123. Plus with these lights, you can swap P60 modules.

Fenix TA30 (which i happen to own and love) is a 3xCR123 light but i run mine off 2x17500s.

Jetbeam M1X (without cell extender) can fit 3xCR123s or 2x18500s.

And all the other lights mentioned above.

Hey Reaper,

What kind of setup do you have that allows you to use cheap AA's or 3 123's? I'd be interested in something like that. What kind of light "engine" do you use?

Turboman7,

I use either the Malkoff M30 or Malkoff M60 series modules depending on the voltage and/or battery I want to use. The extenders are the A19 and A14 but the A14 is used when I want to run 3xAA's. A couple of dummy cell adapters from my Universal Battery kit is also used. You have to watch out for the voltages with the M30 since it's maxed out at 5.5v. but even when I run it with 3xAA Lithium's it's worked for me (but not cheap) that's why I usually go with rechargeables. The 6P also sports the McClicky switch, pocket clip and shroud.

This 6P has been my EDC for quite awhile since I can change it out to what suits me at that time, need or size. I don't mind that it's longer or heavier than all other EDC light's. I'm happy with it and it works for me. That's all the counts.
