Will A KL4 Head Work On A UBH II With 3X123\'s.

I was wondering if a KL4 head off of the L4 will work with the DSpeck Universal Battery Holder using 3 #123 lithium cells?

From what I understand, you should only use the KL4 with two 123 batteries (6v). Just do what I am going to, and use the single 123 battery spacer in your UBH. I think the upcoming KL5 will be for three batteris (9v).

or, you can use 2 AA battery in the UBH to power your KL4 in the same sense a 123 will do.

I think you might let all the magic smoke out of the KL4 if you run it from 3 CR123A cells. It was designed to be run from two 123 cells, and can be run from one. But not three.

I thought i just heard in another thrread that the kl4 can take 9V...
I cant seem to find it though.
I heard alot of SF lights can take 9V, they just arent advertised as such.

The KL1 and KL2 and KL3 will take up to three SF123A's.

The KL4 is specifically intended for two SF123A's.
Running it on three will "overdrive" it. I certainly won't be risking my KL4 by doing that - not even for only short flashes and bursts.

Just to clarify some more, the KL4 will go into direct drive mode when the battery voltage exceeds the forward voltage of the LED. 9V could damage the LED. Anything above 10V will blow the switching regulator as well.
