How exactly do you attach balancing wires (Hobby charger)

Hi guys,

I bought some 2 cell balancing wires for my cradle, but I am clueless as to where/how attach it. Could someone show me?

Thanks!

You need to get a mod to move your thread into the right section
of the forum :)

can you take a close up photo of the balancing wire plug

like this for example

Oh man, I was in a rush... I'll alert the mods :)

The thing that confuses me is this: it's 3 wires....there is + and _ side, so I assume black and red go on each side, but then where does yellow go?

I have the board for the end with the connector but the 3 free wires, that connect to the cradle, confuse me:)

I cant make out how your battery holder is wired up
but I assume, since you want to balance your batteries
that your battery holder is wired up in series

One wire goes to the positive end of battery #1
The middle wire goes in between battery #1 and #2
The last wire goes to the negative end of battery #2

That is how I wired up my holder/balancing wires

A simplified diagram :D

thanks.
i am charging a cell now so, i cant take closeups but i hope it's wired in series, as I had someone else help me wire it.

based on the picture u see, i want to have a cell in bay 1 and cell in bay 4 (this way i can charge any size)

so my wire #1 would go top right corner, wire #3 would go buttom left corner and #2 goes where? (i don't seem to have cells 1 and 2 touch or share contact directly)

Just trying to determine how your holder is wired ... when you
charge two batteries in the holder, does your charger charge to
4.2V or 8.4V ?

If it charges to 4.2V, then the holder is wired in parallel
If it charges to 8.4V, then the holder is wired in series

I am not sure whether or not you can balance 2 cells that are
being charged in parallel

Anyway, I based my wiring on LuxLuthor's thread here

I never tried to charge 2 cells together yet. I was waiting for the balance wires to attach it to try.

Are you saying that if I have 2 cells in charge and try to charge it, it would automatically detect both and charge to 8.4v if it's in series?

(As you can tell, I am absolutely horrid at this). hehe

I think you holder is wired in parallel because if it was wired
in series, you will not be able to charge just 1 cell

What kind of charger do you have ?
On my charger, I have to set it to charge whatever number of cells
it does not do it automatically

The holder is wired in parallel (I think)
your not going to be able to balance charge any cells
with that holder :(

I am not familiar with the plug you have on the charging wires
but I can see a third charging wire connected to your holder
it is that wire that confuses me
Maybe you should ask the person who wired it up for you
how exactly it is wired up

You really need to get this thread moved to the Flashlight Electronics
section and get some better advice

Dont do anything to your holder until someone else chimes in :)

ya, i alerted it a while back.

the person who did it for me did not know if it had to be in series, as i did not. i just explained the process and i think he should have known.

either way, it's done for now

indeed, i will wait for more advice:)

In the meantime, why not stop using this thread? Take the conversation to the appropriate forum, so you won't be bumping actual buy/sell/trade threads down.

It is correct to wait for a moderator to move it. Re-posting it would be a violation of Rule 9.

Moving it now.

Edit: BTW ptolemy, please resize the photo in post #1 to comply with Rule 3.

No problem.
Mine is set up for four cells, but I think the pictures make it easier to understand what has to occur.
