That's what I was thinking. It looks like they're intended for low-current applications, the SAFT spec sheet says 120ma max. Any idea if 500 or 600ma would be harmful?

I suppose one could be used with a small resistor to drive a few 5mm Nichias...

They are used in survival lights like the Tek-Tite Micra Lithium and others that size. Not sure how they do on higher current, but I don't think very well.

I don't think these guys would be able to deliver anything close to what would be needed to drive an LS at spec... I'd assume a very dim light being powered by these guys... Maybe powering a nichia would do (InfinUltra/G), but not an LS...
