LOCO is more like it.
The first car that I owned in college was sold with over 300,000 miles on the clock - and it was sold for a profit. I kid you not. I, uh, maintain my cars. The last car we sold was our Accord, to my best friend. Had 150,000 on it at the time, and has 220,000 on it now.

You need to add an over 200,000 button.
'93 Villager 213,00 original miles
'77 Chev LUV 208,000 original miles
'97 Ford Taurus 112,00 used from 20,000

Well done, Dana. I does somewhat surprise me how many people think that the useful life of a car should only be 100k or so.

The only reason we've ever sold a car is:
1. At one point we didn't need two, my wife and I each came with one.
2. We started a family and couldn't survive with one two-seater.
3. Production EVs became available.

Good grief! How do y'all get so many miles on your cars. I'm driving a '94 I bought new, and just hit 50,000. To get 100,000 on it, I'd have to live in the thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/faint.gif

This past Saturday I sold my car (with ~170,000 miles on it) to it's next user. She and her mechanic seem VERY happy with the engine and transmission which essentially meet factory new specs (the rest of the car is quite worn from years and miles of use and weather, but it sure just polished up real pretty. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ).

I sold this one because there is no way for me to drive it anymore since it is a stick shift - I have to have an automatic transmission and power steering these days.

If treated well, that car might survive many more years.

Now I need to plan so I can get another. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

'97 Explorer with 130,000 however the car I traded in had almost double that.

It was a Nissan Pulsar that was traded in with 236,000 on it. It ran great, still got 34 MPG but was starting to have some electrical problems and so it was time to go.

About 1 year later, the local sheriff let me know that the car had just had been towed for non-mechanical reasons. It was still running. The odometer read 262,000.

It received another citation and was towed once again. If I remember, it had almost 280,000 miles on it.

Got a '90 cherokee with just over 98,600. I fully expect it to last forever, 300K isn't uncommon for them and I have a friend who has one with 400k, the worst problem he has had is replacing the water pump.

1986 Ford F150 (302V8 and AOD tranny) 190,000
1992 Ford Explorer 201,000

I've been very impressed with the F150. I bought it new and have been towing horses around with it for 17 years. The engine/tranny/diff/radiator are all original, never rebuilt. Never runs hot, even pulling 6% grades in 100F weather with the AC running.

Anyone know how long the 302 V8 and the AOD should go before a rebuild? Oil usage is still a quart about every 3K miles. Tranny doesn't slip pulling a 10% grade with a 6,000lb trailer (it saves about 10 miles going the back way instead of the state highway)

We currnetly own:
2001 Dodge Neon ACR - 15k miles
1996 Dodge Neon Sport Coupe - 103k miles
1989 Volvo 240 Wagon - 142k miles

The 1989 Volvo Wagon was a replacement for a 1990 240 Wagon that was wrecked earlier this year. The 1990 240 had 253k miles on it. It is sitting out back as a parts car for the "new" one.

My family (and my wife's family) traditionally drives vehicles that end up with higher mileage. My father bought a new VW Rabbit diesel in 1981 and drove it 100k miles in the first year. It had 311k miles on it when it was wrecked three or four years later.

My wife and I got married, and she had no car. We bought a used 1991 Nissan stanza from her parents for $900. It had 175,000 miles on it. We kept it for 5 years, put another 100,000 miles on it and sold it back to them for $500. That was 2 years ago, and it's still driven daily.

The Ford 302 is a very strong engine. I had one in a 1989 Mustang LX I owned (the 5.0 HO version), and I sold it to a friend with 150k miles on it, and he kept it until 185k miles before he sold it. It went through a quart of oil every 2-3k miles, still ran very strong, and still had the stock clutch in it (the motor was internally stock and original). I wouldn't worry about a rebuild until you start going through a quart of oil every 800-1000 miles. You'll probably get a lot more life out of it yet.

I used to have a 1970 Ford Maverick. It had about 125,000 on the odometer when I got it in the mid 1980s, and over 250,000 when it was stolen in the late 1980s.

I think I dumped in a can of oil about once every month or two, and unfouled the #6 spark plug once every week or two; but it otherwise ran fine.

I need to vote twice, one each way. And old Mazda 626 gasser with 140k+ and a shiny new VW TDI diesel with just 6K on it.

had an 83 corolla, std trans, bought new. drove it for almost 300k, sold it to friend 10yrs later for almost exactly half the purchase price, who drive it a few years, sold it to HIS friend, who also drove it cross country. at that point, it was burning some oil, solved by going up a step in viscosity, and all the regular wear and tear items, clutch, rear shocks once, fluids/filters/plugs etc. currently got 163k on a MY95 car, 75k on a 94, 39k on an 02 and 37 on another 02. before that, 160+ on a 93 and ditto on a 91, and 41k on an 80something (no idea if it was 141 or 241, since it only had 5 digits!
