The main objective of the design was to get rid of the flexible wire I have seen in other designs with no messy nuts to tighten either.

Not in the sales dept.(yet).
The objectives of getting rid of the wire and resetting nut were very successfully met using a spring loaded disc.
Also this design can be improved on and the spring loaded disc concept can be
incorporated in other battery holders with different battery configurations.

The spring is not part of the circuit. All contacts are made of brass, riveted and then soldered (though not needed).
