I copied this questionnaire to make it easier to see what i looking for!

Thanks in advance!

1) How would you prefer to purchase the light?

____I would like to purchase the light from a brick and mortar store. I am located in ______________.
_X___I will be mail-ordering or buying online, so this doesn't matter.

2) Budget: An easy question, but you may change your mind after answering the rest! :)

____Less than $25.
____Less than $50.
____Less than $100.
____Less than $150.
____Less than $300.
____I have no limit.
____I'm flexible, tell me what you gotJ.
_X__Other, please specify ~400$

3) Format:

_X___I want a flashlight.
____I want a headlamp.
____I want a lantern.
____I want a dive light.
____I want a portable spotlight.

4) Flashlight-specific format/size:

____Keychain size.
____Every day carry small (2-4 inches).
____Every day carry medium (4-7 inches).
__X__Holster carry.
____Big enough to need its own travel caseJ.
____I don't care.
____I don't know.
____N/A

5) Emitter/Light source:

_X___LED (known for efficiency, longevity, and compactness)
____Incandescent (known for superior color rendition)
____HID (known for max output, but often at the expense of size)
____I don't know.

6) Manufacturer:

__X__I want to buy a light from a traditional mass producing manufacturer that is ready to go out of the box. or a simple swap of parts
__X__I would consider getting a light that is pieced together (for example a "host" or flashlight body from one manufacturer, and a "drop-in" emitter from another source). Under the right circumstances, this path can provide more options to the consumer to meet specific needs, and can often be easily upgradeable as technology improves.

7) What battery type do you want to use? Rechargeable

____I intend to use alkaline batteries (AAA, AA, C, D) (disclaimer, while it does not preclude all choices, these are not recommended for many of today's most powerful lights)
____I intend to use rechargeable nickel chemistry (NiCad, NiMH, NiZn)
____I intend to use lithium primary batteries (CR123, CR2, Energizer Advanced/Ultimate Lithium AA/AAA)
__X__I intend to use rechargeable lithium (li-ion) chemistry. Feel free to specify a size if you know which size you want (14500, RCR123/16340, 17500, 17670, 18650, etc.)
__X__I want a light with an integrated rechargeable battery. (Note: these choices may be very limited unless you are looking at spotlights)

8) How much genuine out the front (OTF) light do you want/need? Sometimes you can have too much light (trying to read up close up with a 100 lumen light is impossible).

____I want to navigate a dark room or read a map (0-10 lumens).
____I want to walk around an unlit rural area (50-150 lumens).
____I want to illuminate my entire backyard or a campsite (150-300 lumens).
____I want to illuminate an entire field, the neighbor's front yard several houses down, impress my friends and neighbors, etc. (300-700 lumens).
__X__I want ridiculous amounts of lumens (800+ lumens).

9) Throw vs. Flood: At what distance will you be most likely to use this light? Select all that apply. Throw is good, but i want it not to be a supertrower, Some flood is good.

____Less than 1 yard/meter (reading, other close work)
____Less than 5 yards/meters (looking for something inside a dark shed/garage/basement)
____5-20 yards/meters (check out a noise in the backyard)
__X__30-50 yards/meters (I have a big backyard)
__X__50-150 yards/meters (I live in a very rural area/farm with wide open spaces)
__X__150+ yards (I want maximum throw possible)

10) Runtime: Not over-inflated manufacturer runtime claims, but usable brightness measured from first activation to 50% with new batteries (Measured on maximum output).

____Up to 30 minutes (I want the brightest [and potentially smallest] light for brief periods)
____30-60 minutes (I have plenty of batteries just ready to be changed)
__X__90-120 minutes (Runtime is moderately important, but still not critical)
__X__3 hours + (I critically need this light to run on max for extended periods in between battery changes/charges).

11) Durability/Usage: Generally the old phrase "you get what you pay for" is very accurate for flashlights.

____Not Important (A "night-stand" light).
____Slightly Important (Walks around the neighborhood).
_X___Very Important (Camping, Backpacking, Car Glove-box).
_X___Critical (Police, Fire, Search & Rescue, Caving, Survival).
____I don't care.
____I don't know.

12) Switch Type and location (choose all that apply):

____I want a forward clicky (Helpful for momentary activation and signaling).
____I want a reverse clicky (For use with multi-mode/level lights).
____I want a momentary switch (Predominantly for use with signaling and short bursts of momentary light only).
____I want a twisty switch (Tighten the head/tailcap to activate, and the light will stay on until the head/tailcap is loosened).
____I want a body mounted switch (near the head, like on a Maglite).
____I want a tail mounted switch (found on the majority of today's high end lights).
____I don't care.
__X__I don't know.
____Other, please specify____________________.

I am curious to see the replies for this one. I thought Olight SR91 as well but I don't have one and it might be a bit big even for holster carry.

Sr-91 is the flashlight i have looked at, But i wonder if it is to big for holster carry(Its pretty huge) and if the beam is to narrow... i want some flood

I want so much power for.... It's nice, and you dont know when you need it:D:D
Have many low lumen flashlights(edc), so i want a better flashlight with 800+ lumens and better batterylife,. Not necessarily bigger. :)

It's hard to fulfil all your requirements, but a bored surefire host and triple XPG from Oveready would get most of them. Spare cells and a secondary torch would be necessary, but it would be very bright and pocketable.

Pocketable is not necessary. I know its hard to fulfil all my requirements, but so close it's possible is good :)

A more compact option might be an Fenix TK40, or the new TK45. Uses 8xAA batteries so it is shorter and fatter than the 2x18650 alternatives and fits nicely in your hand.
The TK40 has a very nice beam from everything Ive heard and it is quite durable and well built. Its 150 bucks approximately.
The TK45 is brighter slightly, more throwy and more efficient due to using 3 XP-G emitters instead of a single less efficient MC-E.

check out peak flashlights. They have some that are deffinately in your range. They also have a few that are in development right now that you might be interested in.

It's only $150, and the light output is impressive. I'd suggest an Eagletac M2XC4 Mk II. I picked up one a couple months back. I use it everynight outside at the max setting. It is rated at 800 lumens.

I am very impressed.

I was going to get an SR90 Olight by the end of the year. I've decided not to bother. That would be TOO bright for my nightly use. And as much as I want one - just because its so cool. The M2XC4 Eagletac is MORE than bright enough for me.

I have a VP 2K arriving shortly, maybe today, and am curious to know the differences in output between the 4C, 3D and 4D setups.
I would estimate 700-900 lumens when powered by 3D. 4Ds should provide 2x the run time of 4Cs. 3D run time, I don't know, but it can be operated on max continuously w/o overheating.

The Olight M31 is much more compact than the SR91, can be carried in a holster easily and according to the manufacturer puts out 800 OTF lumens.

If i say CUSTOM, what do you recommend?

1000+ lumen with at least 1-1,5 hour battery time on max... and so small torch i can get with this qualifications :)

Two lights you might consider:

Malkoff MD4 -- currently out of stock, but should be back before too long.

Jetbeam RRT-3.

Both are approximately 750 OTF lumens, run on 18650 rechargeable batteries, and both meet your criteria except runtime. I plan to acquire an MD-4 myself as soon as Gene Malkoff has some for sale.

Have you considered OVERREADY?

You could buy a custom Surefire C3 bored to accept 2 18500s with a state-of-the-art triple XPG drop-in,
especially the 1400 lumens ones with copper PCB due to come out fairly soon apparently.

Here is their website. You should also do a search on all threads started by ElectronGuru and Moddoo here on CPF so that you acquire some background knowledge of choices and selections.

Oh and don't expect to be able to buy their hosts or drop-ins immediately. There is a huge demand for these items and you should subscribe to their magazine once you've joined the website for heads-up on availability.
