I recently removed the optic on my electrolumens Decree to instal a 3 mode driver.

when re assembled, the beam is different, it used to be almost all a tight throwy beam, now it has some flood/ringy spill as well which i dont like.

is optic fitment more complicated then just glueing it to the heatsink?

Well, the position of the LED relative to the optic is critical. Height and centering mainly. But even sub-millimeter errors cause trouble in reflectors.

The only TIR light I have is self-centering, not very throwy, and I haven't changed the LED height. Call Wayne and see what he has to say. The DIY flashlight stuff will tell you some about it. Must be centered. Must be at the focal point of the optic.
