Any one out there try replacing the LED in the KL4 with a one watter? What happened?

KL4 is a boost-only circuit, so it would go into direct drive on an E2, I would think, which is probably instant death for a one-watt emitter. Assuming it's a constant current circuit, it will probably overdrive the heck out of a one-watter on an E1 body, but probably not to the point of failure. Pure guessing, thouh, YMMV etc.

McGizmo tried, but he also changed the circuit to a Downboy. Apparently the smaller die surface of the 1W's create a very nice beam with that reflector.

Hi guys,

The stock circuit starts to throttle down when you get down to 3 volts or at least that's my experience so I put an R2H in a KL4 but used a BB500 instead for driving. The results are the best 1 cell, 1 watt light, in this size I have ever seen! The blend and proportion of light distribution in the reflected and direct beam are excellent, IMHO.
