It seems like a lot of throw/reflector/head for $70, has anyone ever thrown an sst-50/90 or p7 in there to see what the beam is like?

anyone know of a cheaper and better head worth experimenting on, with potential for lots of long range lumens ?

this looks like a great light

Been there done that..too cold of an emitter for good contrast at distance but it does throw well for the price. Plus you need at least 6V to get the most out of the emitter due to the driver used.

Taco,

I agree, the pill assm is just a std P60 w/ a modified reflector base sized to accept the Pro1 reflector. Since the Pro1 is built to fit SF "C" thread hosts it does have that size format's limitiations.

I know its more $$$ but the LF P7 turbo head would, probably, handle the heat from a SST50 better since its "M" thread sized... but not having seen the innards I really can't say if from a physical standpoint a SST50/90 would fit.
