Fenix LD25, LD40 (and some other) outdoor beamshots

There has been several threads about the new LD25 and LD40 (and E21 that I don't have) and about tints and donut holes.
So this evening I got out and took some pics.
First time outdoor beamshots. I'm living in a city so I didn't really know were to go, but I found a decent place.
I compared my new LD25 and LD40 to my P20C2 and TK20, all these 4 are neutral white lights. I also included a Streamlight PolyTac LED that is cool white.
All shots taken with exp. time 2 sec, F4. Exp +1/3 added in post processing.
Whitebalance set to 4700 K, that gives a rather fair look.

The first 5 pictures shows the light mounted on the bike about how it looks when I ride it. There is some difference in the angle I put the light so it's not really comparable.
A light pointed further away might look a little less bright compared to a light pointed closer to the bike than it should have if it was pointed at the same spot. I'll try to be more consistent next time. :sssh:

In the five last pictures I put the light on top of the camera and pointed it on the bridge you can see further away. It's about 120 m to that bridge.

Looking at those giant doughnuts in the Fenix LD25 and LD40 beams is making me hungry. (joking!!! Thanks for the informative photos!)

Nice beamshots! Correct me if I'm wrong but LD25 and LD40 looks quite a lot brighter than TK20 and P20C2.

Thanks guys! I'm glad you like it.

Yes, there is a bit of a donut hole on both the LD25 and LD40 when I look at a white wall.
I can not see it in ordinary use or when used on the bike for instance.

Mods,
when I started this thread I had the impression that it was a lot of talk scattered around about the new neutral white Fenix lights and it should be good to start a new thread.
I have now realized that this thread is very similar to another LD25, LD40 thread:
https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/285749&page=5

Maybe it would be a god idea to merge them?

Nice to se some more Swedes around here. Would you say that a LD40 is a good option as a bike light? My impression was that it might be a bit to big.

It' a bit to big IMO.
When I took that photo it was put on the bikemount but not fastened.
With a fitting bikemount it would give a great illumination but for me the LD25 is fine and better size.

So the doughnut hole is not obvious in real world usage? mind posting some white wall beamshots?

All those talk of doughnut holes is what was holding me back from getting these new lights.

I would also say the same is true for the LD10 R4 which has a deep smooth reflector as well. I can see the doughnut effect easily indoors on a wall, but don't think it is noticeable when using it outdoors unless you are hunting for it. Certainly I can't see the effect when it is bike mounted. Would I buy one again? Absolutely.

Gunnar thanks for your thoughts on bike use. I agree with you -- after looking at the two beams the LD25 (and probably also a LD20) beam looks as serviceable as the LD40's for that purpose and as you say is lighter.

Are you using a TwoFish or Fenix mount or ?

Some white wall shots as well.

Never mind brightness. The shots were taken on low or medium and exposure choosen to show beam quality as good as I could do. Whitebalance set to auto. One photo to show complete beam and one photo on center. The distance and focal length is the same for different lights so size of spill is comparable. (The same goes for the hotspot but exposure may vary and a brighter hotspot may look larger.)

Rotate the photo about a quarter turn clockwise and I think you'll see that you have a picture of the elusive evil monkey. :naughty:

Thanks for all your photos GunnarGG:thumbsup: They helped me in pulling the trigger on ordering a LD40 (and possibly the LD25 when I get my next paycheck) Keep up the good work!

GunnarGG, you did a great job with those pics. Thank you very much!! I really digg the LD40 concept, even more now that I saw your beamshots. :)

The LD40 beamshot looks great, just bought a TK20 last month and its a great torch although if I'd seen the LD40 I probably would have bought it instead. Hmmm maybe just have to save and get it too :sssh:

Thanks for the beamshots. It seems that the doughnut hole is about the same as the LD10 R4 I've got and it doesn't seem to bother me.
