I've got a Fusion 36 on the way for my 4D Maglite and this will free up a 4D Maglite LED upgrade.

Does anyone know if the 4D upgrade would work with 2D's in a cheap host or would it work better with something lashed together with 1 18650.

I've had a search through but all I can find is ROP specs. Or Am I better off just sticking it in the tailcap as a fall back

If it is one of the Nite-Ize upgrades, it will work with 2-6 cells. I have one and have used it in everything from my 5d mag to a 2xAA host with 2x14500.
They will fit a wide variety of lights.

The Maglite Led Bulb is fatter than a regular PR2 bulb and will not fit the bulb holder of other lights unless you modify the bulb holder first.

With only 2D cells you will get around 5 lumens from that bulb. I know that an 18650 will power it to full power so that would be a good way to go. I ran a 4-cell MagLED module in a 2C MagLite for a while using an 18650 in a sleeve and a spacer to get it all to work. Maybe you can have a C-cell MagLite cut down to 1.5C size and run a single 26650 or 18650 in there or cut it down to 1C size and run a 26500.
