NYC, love, hate relationship!! Love the convenience, the diversity and cutting edge culture, HATE the "Liberal Totalitarian" mentality, intellectual superiority and status driven arrogance, OH and the Corporate BS (turning NYC into the world's biggest shopping mall AND exclusive residence, what garbage!!).

No. It keeps getting more crowded. To many people; too many trucks; too much boise. The weather is too hot and too humid. But to move, I'd have to do something with all my important junk. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm okay with the area I live in.

City Politics are what I want changed!!!

If I were to move, I'd probably only go 30 miles or so... and that would put me at least 28 miles from the Houston City Limits.

PaulW, don't say too hot and too humid....

We got the rights to that!

Grew up in Vermont. Love the rural lifestyle, playing in fields and woods and lack of traffic. Hate 30 below in the winter, snowstorms in April, mud season and bugs. Now live in more urban MA in a population 25,000 city. Love having restaurants and liquor stores within walking distance as well as shopping malls 15 min. away. Hate the traffic, high cost of living and the NOISE! (although barking dogs in Vermont drove me crazy). I guess if I could I would summer in Vermont and travel a lot and maybe winter in Arizona. I also always thought it would be neat to winter in South America say possible Brazil or Argentina and get your 15-16 hour days back.

Live in Hawaii. Been getting more crowded on the island I live on. But, I wouldn't leave for any amount of money. The only thing I'd change right now is the damn bus strike. Traffic is a lot worse than usual right now. But, other than that I have no complaints!

There's a fancy-pants hotel across the street from me, there are LOTS of sodium vapour lights in frosted glass globes all around, a strange, poopy odour comes in through the windows, there isn't a Wall-Mart or other large department store or decent hardware store nearby, and this part of town isn't a very nice place to be after dark. And you can't see the stars unless they're magnitude 0 or -1 or brighter, and there aren't any crickets here.
But this really isn't a bad place to be if you aren't a flashaholic. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
But if you are a flashaholic (if you're on CPF), there are better places to be. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif :toliet: /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

I love the area where I live San Jose, California

It's great to be so near everything the Ocean, Mountains, The climate is nearly always nice. Sports teams - 49'rs, Raiders, Giants, A's, Sharks.

Camping, Surfing, Boating, you can Ski (water or snow) there are 500 miles of hiking trials in the area. Alot of times I go for a drive late at night through the Santa Cruz mtns. Gotta drive slow you don't want to cream a deer, but at night, it's lush green, misty, and you can smell the redwoods, and mess with your flashlights.

right behind you. LOOK!
I live just outside Rochester, NY. I am going to move ASAP after I retire (or hit the lottery) to some place where they dont sell snow shovels at Wal-Mart.
The weather here sux. You get 3 or 4 months of OK weather during the summer, if it isnt raining. We got 130" of snow last year.
The taxes are too friggin high. $3800/yr property taxes on a 'modest' home. 8.5% sales tax. State income tax forms are more confusing than federal.
We have Hitlery Clinton and Chuck Schumer. Nuff said on that.
Cars last about 10 years tops. I have a '93 Escort that has so much rust it looks like a bad chemistry project (140k miles tho).
Worst drivers I know of (except Naples Italy).
The roads are ALWAYS under construction but you never see anybody working except during rush hour.
Very little variety in restaraunt choices unless you like something with tomato sauce. No Hardee's, Captain D's, Chic-fila, Krystal, Shoneys, Sonic, Churches, Mrs Winners, Chi-Chi's, Del-Taco, Steak-N-Shake, Carls Jr, Bonanza, Ponderosa, Western Sizzler and so on.
Bullistic fingerprinting on all handguns.
Up to 6 months to get a pistol permit.
I could go on but you get the idea. There may be worse places to live, but I know there are better places.

There is a suburb called Webster. The town motto is "Webster, where life is worth living"
NOT!

San Diego is nice, but home prices are simply impossible. A typical 1200 sq foot condo can easily run 350-400k in a decent neighborhood. Otherwise the weather and everything else is hard to beat.

Southern California- I can be at the beach or the ski slopes in an hour, and both in the same day. And so will be a million other people. I grew up here, and it is rapidly becoming unlivable because of the crowds. And I've never liked the hot summers and boring seasons.
I've scouted Southeast Alaska as an alternative, and it looks like Juneau will be home in a few years. I love the weather, the scenery, and the people. And every city should have a glacier or two... Bob

so Cal. is the best climate in the US. yeah, i'm happy here but my neighborhood is a bit shady. used to be really bad just 2 years ago until they formed a community watch and people started buying the apts and fixing them up (ie: paying to get the drug dealers out) oh, and having my stereo ripped out of my car in broad daylight right in front of my place kind of pissed me off. near the beach in Santa Monica would be nice. ah, to dream....

I love where I live. Northern LA area. I'm out in the country in a small community yet just 30 minutes from downtown. I don't have to worry about keeping my doors and cars locked up. I know my neighbors and talk to them and they know me. My kids are safe. There are trails and hiking and horses and wildlife. There is little chance that my area will become overdeveloped and crowded. I even have a small creek next to my house that has water most of the year.

Now if the jerk politicians would quit screwing the state up I'd be quite happy.

Apart from the weather, it is lovely!

Ross...do you remember the name of the "wee lass" pop singer from back in the "80s? She was a tiny thing, beautiful singer and always supprised me with her Scots accent (brough?).
