How reliable should a flashlight be?

All of the 3 budget lights have failed me. I now have a MTE and an Akoray that might or might not come on. Sometimes giving a quick flash as the only feedback that I don't quite understand. I also have a Tank with a broken tail cap.

Before someone says you get what you paid for, please wait! I would like to know if these issues are common with all lights. I thought flashlights are simple devices but yet I cant understand why they are not working even after I have taken them apart to study. Sometimes after they get recleaned, relubed, reassembled, they will be working for a few days before the same symptoms resurface. Is the driver the cause of this behaviour?

My more expensive Nitecore, Fenix and Quark are definitely more predictable but then again, they are not being handled as EDC either. How reliable are your flashlights? And how fix-able are these lights? Clearly, the cheap lights are not made to fail reliably which is probably quite hard to do but it does seem so in my case!
