Hello Everyone,
First time here and as posted, I am planning to thru-hike the PCT (Pacific crest trail) for 2011. The trail is a 2,650-mile trail that travels the west coast from Mexico to Canada. That said, I am looking for a very light headlamp or flashlight. The light I have been looking at so far have been the Zebralight 51, Fenix LD10, Fenix L0D and Quark AA
I will be using it primarily for camp reading (hour each night), seeing around camp/cooking etc. There might be nightd where I need to use it to see while hiking to destination, but I plan to set up camp before that happens...I hope haha
I know little of flashlight or headlamps, but what I am seeking is long a lasting battery, low power setting for reading and camp life are important. Keep it to a minimum of 1AA or 1AA, or 1 battery that easily available in towns. I would like it under 4oz, the lighter the better, but 1oz more for function is worth it. Clip on a hat or headband does not matter. If I went the flashlight route I would get a diffuser, Do they work? My backup will be an emergency Photon Freeom light, unless you have another lightweight alternative. I am not interested in the $150 lights, but under $60 is good. I do like the idea of a battery lasting me long hours, but also if I need it for hiking at dark, its possible, and effective. Thanks for your posts. I look forward to heading from you all...
