I just saw this, so I thought I'd post it here.
The language of light by Dr. John W. Matthews
This will take you to the introduction, then you have to click next to get to the next section. I figured it would be nice to have links to each individual section, so here they are:

Introduction
Light intensity
Candlepower conundrum
Battery basics
Just say "charge it"
Let there be light
Filament lamps
The truth about LEDs
How long, How bright?
Arc lamps
Reflectors and Lenses

Maybe it would be useful to have the text of all of this in the CPF database, but I'll leave that up to someone else. It would be a fairly significant amount of text, so admin. approval should probably be sought before posting all of it. Enjoy!

This is the same article that is in the G&A Combat Tactics magazine that Surefire sponsored. You should try to find a copy. It's a very good read.

In the "you learn something every day" column:

Thanks to that article I now understand why 123A batteries are called 123A!

a 123A battery is one "2/3 A" (1-2-3-A) cell
a 223A battery is two "2/3 A" (2-2-3-A) cells packaged in one casing.
