Hey guys, I figured I would post up my very first flashlight mod ever (this place is addicting to read you know).
Its nothing spectacular. I took a D-cell maglite chopped it down 6. Then ordered sku #14413 from DX and waited, and waited, and waited. It finally showed up a few days ago and I finished my project up.
The pill doesn't contact the mag body, but I used thermal paste on the reflector, then shimmed it to the mag head with more paste and aluminum foil, so far, after 10 minutes of continuous on it is barely warm to the touch. The great part is that the rheostat I re-used gives me 3 pretty distinct power levels, so I can run it on low for walking.
It is attached to 6 volt gell cell battery that is intended for use with a headlamp that uses a krypton bulb. For the amount of battery you lug around though you don't get as much light as you should from that setup.
My camera isn't very good, but here is some pictures and some beam shots for you.
Wall at 4 ft. Low, and High
Door at 10 ft, Low and High
The main purpose of this light is for coon hunting, and although it is a great improvement over what I had, I feel like it is a little lacking from optimum, however, it beats the pants off a 6 volt krypton bulb. The DX page says this module operates better at 8 volts, so maybe in the future I will try a battery upgrade.
But for now I am going to try fitting an aspherical lens (another 30 day wait I'm sure) to get the spot as focused as possible.
I can't do an outside shot because we have an outdoor light that floods the whole property. Maybe in the future.
