In 2011 - will we see 400 to 500 lumens from a smallish, production EDC light?

Many of the popular smallish-size lights (Quark 123*2 Tactical, EagleTac P20C2, Fenix PD30, etc, etc) seem to be maxed out at ~200 OTF lumens.

Is it just wishful thinking to see some of these lights hit 400 to 500 lumens? Would the XM-L emitter be capable? I know there's the heat issue with smaller lights, but the duration of 'turbo' mode could be limited.

500 lumens is easy to achieve if we get up to a slightly larger host, say like 6P size and a custom drop-in, but these hosts are a little big for EDC pocket carry.

Your wish came true - the P20C2 does 524 ANSI with the XM-L HO module.

You might find the ZebraLight SC600 interesting: At 4.2" (18650) XM-L (U2), it puts out 750 Lms. OTF for 5 min, then 500 Lms for 2 hours, down to a .1 Lms "moonlight" for 80 days. I believe it is the smallest 18650 available and with ZL's useful UI, I think it's a game changer...

With the XML LEDs, I think it's not a challenge to get an EDC light with 400 lumens.

I'm just wondering when will Cree or some other company come out with a new led that gives you 800 lumen in a 2xAA torch.

When I joined back in 2006 we thought it impressive when the LEDs hit the 200 lumen mark with even the larger flashlights. 100 lumens was considered bright back then..LOL !!!! Now the small flashlights are incredible!!!!

Thrunight 1A neutral tint XM-L lights are S W E E T on 14500 li-ion! Definitely something you should consider!

Definitely. There are eight flavors of Thrunite Neutron: AA or CR123, 1 or 2 cell, cool or neutral. I have all of the single cell flavors (1A and 1C in both cool and neutral tint) and love them all. And they are insanely bright on 14500/16340 cells.

I can confirm this - just upgraded my P20C2 with an XM-L module from IlluminationGear, and it is astonishing.
