My two favorite single output Surefires use these heads and are still in production (L4 / L5).
I don't understand why you cannot buy the head as as a conversion head so that one could convert like a C2 incandescent into an LED (I realize other conversions heads are available, but I prefer the KL5).
Also, the conversion they do sell...

... does not list the C3, but DOES list other three cell models. Why doesn't this work for the C3?
Finally, I think a KL4 modified as a LED head for the 1 celled E1E (http://www.surefire.com/E1E-Executive-Elite) would be very nice. Love the floody beam of the KL4. Do any others have interest in a KL4 head modified for the 1 cell model?
